Imogen ‘Rocking’ the Tennis World
Rocking in the mud at the Reading Festival to Muse and Elbow is not the best preparation for a week of tennis competitions – but it didn’t seem to worry local youngster Imogen Sinclair at the recent TENTEC Hereford & Worcester County Closed.
10 year old Imogen from Alvechurch, always a slow starter, lost to her closest rival, Alicia Williams, in the first match in the U10s, but bounced back to win her next seven matches.
In the U12s she thrashed the number 2 seed, Georgina Cupper, 6-1, 6-1 to set up a final with her doubles partner.
In the U12s doubles Imogen and Kate Horsburgh brushed aside the no 1 seeds 6-4, 6-2, to advance to the final where a straightforward 6-3, 6-2 victory ensued.
The U12s singles final was always going to be a long match between two of the most consistent hitters in the Midlands – and so it was with Kate just confirming her no 1 seeding 6-3, 7-5 in epic 2 hours 48 minutes.
So a first and 2 seconds – not a bad return for Imogen, who also got confirmation on her return home that she is the No 1 player at U10s in The Midlands - her 2 tournament wins and 4 semi-final places, over the summer, enough to ensure that she is one of only 12 of 275 girls her age to qualify for the Summer Regional Finals at the National Tennis Centre, Roehampton.
That’s one in the eye for the Lawn Tennis Association’s talent spotters – Imogen from the Bromsgrove Tennis Club qualifying ahead of all the Midland’s High Performance Centre protégées.
